Description

Hibiscus, also known as rosemallow, is a flowering plant belonging to the same family as cocoa and cotton. The flowers are popular as an herbal tea, especially in Caribbean and Latin American countries. They are often combined with other herbs or fruit juices and they impart a cheery red color and tart flavor.

Origin

Burkina Faso/Egypt

Directions

To prepare as a tea, pour 8 oz boiling water over 1-2 teaspoons of herb. Cover and steep for 5-10 minutes, strain and serve immediately.

Suggested uses

Naturally caffeine-free, tart and colorful, hibiscus tea is delightful on its own (hot or cold, sweetened or not) or as the basis of an healthful herbal tea blend. It combines especially well with green or black teas and with other herbs such as peppermint, rosehips, spearmint, linden leaf and lemongrass. Also try it mixed with a juice (such as cranberry), lemonade or sparkling water for a refreshing spritzer. Add to potpourris and decorative jars for gorgeous, deep color.

Hibiscus Flowers

I love the size and the uniform cut of this herb. It is so nicely cut ,that it makes it so easy to fit into your tea strainer. I love the tartness of the hibiscus flower. I went to pick some up for tea and they were out, they took my name and phone number and said that they would call when it would arrive. In a couple of weeks I received a phone call that it had arrived, it was so nice that they actually called, such a nice gesture. Love their customer service.

Real health benefits

This tea is a real life saver. Although it has a bitter taste, nothing that a little honey or agave can’t fix, it knocked my high blood pressure way down. I no longer have to take medications with harmful side effects. And if you steep it too strong just serve it on ice. Hibiscus tea is refreshing hot or cold and it’s good for you.

Hibiscus Tea

This tea actually had more of a bitter taste than I expected- which I am sure has to do with my own body chemistry & taste buds. That being said, once steeped, it is a vibrant red color and I look forward to drinking into the summer in an iced version!
