It is overwhelming! The CBD craze! Everyone is talking about CBD. They say it does amazing things for everything and everyone, is it true? Is it the modern-day Snake oil that has gotteneveryone gleefully blindfolded in a game of Russian roulette?
Why are we only learning about this now?
The truth is that scientists have known about cannabinoids since the turn of the 20th century and much later in 1992, discovered the endocannabinoid system. They finally connected the dots. This was huge! But because cannabis has been illegal since 1937, research was extremely limited.
Fortunately, the times are changing, and progress is moving forward. The legalization of medical marijuana and now recreational, plus the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill legalizing hemp has slowly been diminishing the stigma around this magical and complex plant. Now we are gathering more scientific studies to support many anecdotal claims. Check out these three studies about cannabinoids and the endocannabinoid system:
As a consumer and voice in the cannabis industry, it is my responsibility to seek out new research and always be educating myself.
Here are the Top Five cannabinoids you need to know:
#1 – THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol): You may be most familiar with this one. THC is the most psychoactive cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant. This is the component that gets you high. What you have not heard of is it is a close relative Delta-8.
Here are four key benefits research suggests THC has the potential to:
#2 – CBD (cannabidiol): A non-psychoactive cannabinoid. Research suggests it may help with pain, inflammation, anxiety, seizure disorders and improve skin health. There is so much more research needed, but the scientific studies and anecdotal claims out there are promising. Check out this article on Medical News Today.
Here are some of the many benefits research suggests CBD can do:
#3 – CBN (cannabinol): CBN occurs naturally as the plant ages. Gradually over time as the plant is exposed to heat and air, the THC converts to CBN. It is a mildly psychoactive cannabinoid because it has sedative properties. If you have trouble sleeping or suffer from insomnia, this is the cannabinoid you want to seek out in the products you purchase. The best part is it is not as heavy as some OTC or prescription options may be, so you should notexperience a hangover feeling from using products containing CBN.
What are some of the other benefits research claims:
#4 – CBG (cannabigerol): Called “the mother of All Cannabinoids” because all cannabinoids start out at CBGA. Also nicknamed “the Xanax of cannabinoids” among industry professionals because of its mood regulating properties.
Research also suggests it may:
#5 – CBC (Cannabichromene): So much more research is needed to understand the full benefits of cannabinoids, but CBC is the one cannabinoid I am really excited for. Even with the limited research available for CBC, so far research claims it may:
HEMP PLANT>>>ETHANOL EXTRACTION>>>CRUDE
Short path distillation utilizes an apparatus with a multi-position receiver and condensing head. This process is very limited in scale and production, but can produce high-quality distillate with an experienced operator.
Crude oil is heated in a boiling flask with a magnetic stirrer. The condensing head is jacketed and requires a recirculating chiller to cool the condensing head to condense the cannabinoid vapor back into a liquid form.
The compounds are then separated through slow thermal heating with precise and controlled temperatures. As you slowly raise the boiling flask temperature, you will get multiple fractions of the distillation—the higher you go, the different compounds you will be distilling, starting with highly volatile terpenes or solvent leftover at lower temperatures. Raising the temperature will create a new compound/fraction, and the multi-position receiving flask can be adjusted to collect the different fractions into different receiving flasks.
A short path will typically have 3 fractions—heads (terpenes and high volatiles), main body (THC/CBD), and tails (high boiling point cannabinoids).
Now that the FDA has acknowledged the medicinal value in CBD, clinical studies have ramped up considerably on the cannabis plant, including hemp. There have been over 100 cannabinoids discovered in the cannabis plant but a few well-known and some not so well-known are worth paying attention to. THC is the famous cannabinoid that gets you high if taken in high enough doses while CBD, almost as popular, has its own therapeutic benefits without the side effect of being intoxicated. But another other heavily studied cannabinoids CBG shows much promise.
]]>Unless you live under a rock you've probably heard of CBD oil. Creams, oils, salves, capsules, tablets, patches... the list is long. Now that the FDA has acknowledged the medicinal value in CBD, clinical studies have ramped up considerably on the cannabis plant, including hemp.
In 2020, researchers called for better monitoring of mental health during the pandemic as part of our global response to the virus. In fact, surges in the use of anti-anxiety supplements and meds along with immune building products has been seen on a global scale. One natural product has seen an amazing jump in popularity last year, CBD.
From frontline workers to homeschooling, being confined, quarantined, socially distant and consistently threatened by a virus, many are turning to the potential therapeutic CBD products that we've all heard about or seen advertisements for. Not to mention the threat of losing loved ones and our jobs.
At Aromatic Infusions, we've noticed an increase in health workers using CBD & CBG products on their days off for stress relief and sleep support while using it on a daily basis for pain and inflammation relief. With the FDA finally recognizing CBD as a medicine, its clinically proven benefits are increasing and the number of FDA approved CBD medications are positioned to increase substantially. This takes CBD from the anecdotal to the clinically proven which will only increase this natural healer’s popularity.
From panic attacks, PTSD, insomnia and depression, CBD is gaining traction even with those who typically do not prefer natural alternatives. In states where CBD has been around a bit longer they are successfully using CBD for drug addiction, it may even help with cravings and anxiety from opiate withdrawal. This would be welcome here in Acadiana where the opiate epidemic has really taken hold.
With Louisiana now in the hemp growing game, it's imperative that locals understand what hemp and CBD is and where their products are being made. In 2020, every single bottle of CBD sold in Louisiana, with the exception of Aromatic Infusions, was grown and manufactured in another state. With over 60 hemp farmers in 2020 and more to come in 2021, we must educate ourselves and ask the questions that matter when purchasing these products. There is no reason why Louisiana CBD companies cannot buy local raw products from our local farmers.
The next time you are in the market for CBD you need to ask:
If the answer to all three of these questions is not a confident YES!!! then walk away. You have a better option out there!!
SUPPORT YOU LOCAL BUSINESSES AND HEMP FARMERS!!!

In a nation where the hemp industry is virtually unregulated, individuals and companies are scrambling to capitalize on a booming market. As laws and regulations are forming, many companies are taking advantage of the loose structure and in many cases are providing an inferior product, or worse, a dangerous product. An example of this occurred in our shop this past fall. A customer brought us a bottle of CBD that was purchased from one of the largest national retailers in the world. Having bought it from a store that traditionally has great products at amazing prices, confidence was high that the CBD was of top quality. However, upon analyzing the contents, website, and lack of certifications the exact opposite was found. The $80 bottle of CBD was not only labeled incorrectly, but the main ingredients were water, high fructose corn syrup, red dye 40, sodium benzoate, and a very minimal amount of what was supposed to be CBD. With no lab tests we really had zero idea of what the bottle contained. This came from a national chain retailer. So, if this can happen, how can you protect yourself? There are a few things to look for that will ensure the company you buy from knows what they're doing and has your best interest in mind.
This is a big one. Proper licensing ensures that the products are being tested and the labeling is accurate. Rule of thumb...never buy CBD from a company without first seeing a recent and official third-party lab test and their CBD license.
As Louisiana forms its industrial hemp market it is imperative that its natives support the states initiatives and the local businesses that make up the Louisiana hemp industry. Foreign and out of state companies have already flooded the local hemp scene. We need to support our local farmers, especially in 2020 as this is the state's first year to grow hemp. At Aromatic Infusions we grow hemp in Utah and will be growing on 7 different farms and greenhouses in Louisiana this year. CBD extraction will be performed in a state approved lab here in Lafayette parish. We will be one of the only seed to shelf CBD companies in the state, if not the only one.
Most people would want to buy a product from the manufacturer, not someone who simply puts their label on someone else's bottle. This is referred to as white labeling. CBD is a therapeutic oil. You want to deal with the people making it, or at least a representative. If you buy CBD from the internet, make sure you verify their credentials. Put a name, face, and lab tests behind that bottle before you ingest it.
CBD is expensive to distill and isolate. There is a price floor that is present and when a company sells at this level or below it this is a huge red flag. A few months ago, I saw a 20 oz bottle of lavender oil selling for $15. Knowing the production cost of lavender, I immediately knew this was not a pure lavender. You get what you pay for, and although the costs of producing CBD is falling, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

]]>Part of the problem may be what you are eating. If your diet is full of grains and dairy it can be inflammatory and aggravate eczema. A diet to try is the Paleo diet. It can be hard but it is worth it!
Some of the problem could also be the products that you put on your skin. If you are using a lotion or soap (or even shampoo!) that contains chemicals that can irritate your skin, it will effect your eczema. The following are some of the products that you should try to get rid of/treat your eczema.
1.Goat Milk & Oatmeal Soap: This soap is extremely moisturizing. Make sure that you don't leave this soap in a puddle of water in your shower. Use a soap dish! You can pick up a soap dish made from a local woodworker at our shop for $5!
2.Eczema Oil: This oil blend was specifically designed to treat eczema. I have found that instantly, when applied, this oil has decreased the pain and discomfort of the eczema on my skin. I also use this oil whenever I have a hive reaction. IT WORKS!
3. Eczema Bath Salts: These bath salts are a therapeutic blend of dendritic salts, epsom salts, Himalayan pink salts, and have been enriched with magnesium. It features a blend of frankincense and myrrh, two powerful resins that specialize in battling against any skin condition!
RECIPE: WHIPPED COCONUT OIL
1. Put all ingredients into a mixing bowl. Note: Do not melt the coconut oil first. It will only whip up if it’s solid.
2. Mix on high speed with a wire whisk for 6-7 minutes or until whipped into a light, airy consistency.
3. Spoon the whipped coconut oil body butter into a glass jar and cover tightly. Store at room temperature, or in the refrigerator if your house is so warm it melts the oil.
You can find this recipe and many more here!

First, a little biology and history. Frankincense is a gum resin found under the bark of the Boswellia tree. There are about 25 known species of Boswellia, but we’re going to focus on the serrata species.
Boswellia serrata, also known as Indian frankincense, is native to much of India. Since ancient times, the resin has played an important role in cosmetics, fragrances, flavors, religious and spiritual ceremonies, embalming, and medical therapies such as Ayurveda.
What makes frankincense so powerful is its make-up. (I’m going to get a little “phytochemistry crazy” here, so hang on!). Loaded with monoterpenes, diterpenes, triterpenes, tetracyclic triterpenic acids and four major pentacyclic triterpenic acids (β-boswellic acid, acetyl-β-boswellic acid, 11-keto-β-boswellic acid and acetyl-11-keto-β-boswellic acid), this is where the magic lies.
Ok, so let’s step away from chemistry for the rest of the blog. What do all those “hard to pronounce” words mean? The biggest take home is that these have impressive anti-inflammatory properties, which are strongest in the terpenes and boswellic acids.
Inflammation is a pathologic condition associated with a wide range of diseases, and let’s face it, it’s a probably a component of ALL diseases. If frankincense can play a role in alleviating inflammation, then I would say it’s a must have in any healing regiment.
A study by University of Leicester titled “Frankincense Superior to Chemotherapy in Killing Late-Stage Ovarian Cancer Cells” can get any one’s attention. The study used one of the boswellic acids found in frankincense, acetyl-11-keto-beta-boswellic acid (AKBA), and found it has cancer-killing properties and has the potential to destroy ovarian cancer cells. The study quotes "What has been most surprising is that the cells we have tested which are resistant to chemotherapy have shown to be more sensitive to this compound, suggesting frankincense may indeed be able to help overcome drug resistance, and lead to an improved survival rate for patients with late-stage ovarian cancer,"
AKBA also exhibits potent antibacterial activity. A study published in 2011concluded AKBA can be a useful compound for treating oral pathogens and has great potential for use in mouthwash for preventing and treating oral infections.
Frankincense also has the potential to improve cognitive function and memory, not to mention the benefits it has for arthritis, pain, colitis, bronchial asthma, coronary plaque, rheumatoid arthritis, and Crohn’s disease. This is a pretty amazing oil that everyone should have and enjoy!
You can use frankincense topically, with or without a carrier oil. Alternatively, it can also be ingested (with the guidance of a health professional), as well as diffused. You can also purchase the resin and burn it for spiritual or religious occasions.
I have frankincense in my household and use it all the time. I love the uplifting woodsy-citrus smell. Maybe it’s time you try it too. You will love it.

Have you ever read the ingredient label on some of these household cleaning products? It’s scary! Or how about the ingredients in air fresheners? EEKS! What about medications taken orally for toe nail fungus? Can you believe a liver enzyme check-up is required while on some of these antifungals because of their potential harmful side-effects? NO THANKS! It makes one think we could do better!
As we become plagued with health issues and chronic disease, more and more people are turning to alternative therapies for healing. It is only natural to return to a time before the pharmaceutical and chemical world to seek answers. Well, the essential oils you have smelled when walking through a lavender flower garden, or plucking a ripe grapefruit off the tree, provide some of the answers for which you’ve been searching.
Take a lemon peel for example — now tear it. Notice the oil being released and the citrus smell filling the air? What you are seeing and smelling is the essential oil of the lemon. To get more specific, the main constituent of this oil is a terpene called D-limonene, which is found in all citrus. D-Limonene has been used clinically to dissolve cholesterol-containing gallstones and help heartburn and gastroesophageal reflux (GERD). D-Limonene also has a well-established chemopreventive activity against many types of cancer.
As we move forward in life, let’s look back; back to our ancestry, to a time when the essential oils of the plant were the only products available for use. For me, I would rather clean my house with a mixture of water, vinegar and tea tree oil than with a chemical product containing ingredients I can’t pronounce and are possible carcinogens.

The FDA does not regulate essential oils so no essential oil company has FDA "approved" oils.
In the USA it is still legal for large essential oil companies to dilute their oils with synthetic substitutes and chemical blends.
All of these credentials are just the foundation to providing a therapeutic and reliable end product to our customers. Each bottle sold at Aromatic Infusions is hand poured, labeled, and capped.
The attention to care and respect we have for pure oils is vastly different from large essential oil companies, as they simply cannot produce the millions of bottles of oils they produce in the same fashion. Instead they must use huge vats of oils, conveyor belts, automated bottling machines, labeling machines, capping machines, and assembly lines.
It all began during the Black Plague when the King caught a band of thieves for robbing deceased plague victims of their jewels, money and valuables. What was most peculiar about this band of thieves was their ability to avoid contracting the plague whilst robbing the victims. These four thieves of France turned out to be descendants in a family of Apothecaries. They were well versed in the healing abilities of essential oils and contained enough knowledge to develop a blend to protect themselves against the plague.
This proprietary essential oil blend of clove, rosemary, and other aromatics has since been university tested for its cleansing abilities and has been found to be highly effective in supporting the immune system and good health. Our Medieval blend follows 15th century tradition, containing Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon, Rosemary, and Eucalyptus.
Though the Black plague is far behind us, this essential oil blend can fight against common ailments such as the common cold and the flu. Keep your family healthy and happy this winter with essential oils!

Scientifically called "atopic dermatitis", eczema is a chronic skin condition that causes redness, itchiness, dryness, cracking and flaking. It is most common among young children however it can also affect adults with symptoms appearing on on the arms, hands, feet, ankles, wrists, face, neck, upper chest, or behind the knees. Eczema is usually considered clinical and can come in go. These comings and goings are called "flare-ups".
Eczema flare ups look like anything from broken skin, blistering, small raised bumps, leathery skin, and severe itching. In our culture, eczema is somewhat of an epidemic. Almost all of us know someone who suffers from this condition. Red, itchy, inflamed skin... possibly blistering or whelps.
1. Discontinue use of all synthetic chemicals. Use a natural shampoo, natural soap, natural lotions and natural perfumes.
2. Goat Milk & Oatmeal Soap: This soap is extremely moisturizing, made with all natural ingredients and can be very soothing to the inflamed skin.
3. Eczema Oil: This oil blend was specifically designed to treat eczema. When applied, this oil decreases the pain and discomfort of eczema the skin, immediately. The same oil blend can be used for treating hives. Our eczema oil is already blended with a carrier oil, jojoba oil, so it can be applied to the skin right out of the bottle.
Apply Eczema Blend to the affected area, keeping the dry skin moist. The idea is to keep the affected area from drying out or cracking. Apply as needed throughout the day. Just a few drops (5 or 6) can cover an area like the back of your hand, elbow, or knees. You can increase or decrease this amount to suit your needs. Patch test, always, as a general rule to observe any sensitivities. After about 3 days this application can be reduced drastically. Many people simply apply Eczema Blend after a bath to "maintain" their problem areas to prevent the flare-ups from returning.
3. Drink plenty of water first thing in the morning. A few drops of Lemon essential oil in your morning water will not perform miracles, but it will, however, help digestion and provide small amounts of vitamin C. It is a great energizer in the mornings. Better digestion equals better nutrient absorption!
4. Use a humidifier to keep the air moist. Dry air can trigger an eczema flare-up so keeping the air most in your home, office, or bedroom is important. (Do not diffuse essential oils in a humidifier.)
With a beautiful, stimulating, citrus aroma, Lime brings relief for fatigue and anxiety.
Spearmint essential oil's aroma is revitalizing, and refreshing. It contains a naturally-occurring compound, menthol, creating a cool, refreshing atmosphere.

The key is to not let the leaves touch you. The oils from poison ivy can spread from your clothing or even pets to your skin. Everyone also reacts differently to poison ivy. While itching it doesn't make it spread, the 2nd time your come in contact with poison ivy will most likely be worse than the first.
While spending time outside make sure to keep areas most likely to come in contact with the plant, covered. Wearing high socks or pants while hiking can help.

An aroma diffuser is a device that uses ultrasonic waves to infuse your air with the therapeutic properties of the essential oil of your choice. You should NEVER put your essential oil in a device that uses heat. It destroys the oil's therapeutic properties.
Why do I need an AromaDiffuser?
By infusing the therapeutic properties of essential oil in the air, you are directly inhaling it. Your mucus membranes will they travel through the blood stream and nerve pathways to your brain. Your brain controls your emotions, directs your mood/thoughts, and controls your immune system function.
How do I use an AromaDiffuser?
The AromaDiffuser we sell here online is very easy to operate. Just fill up the container up to the "min" or "max" line (you'll see once you open the white cap and the clear cap) and 5-6 drops of your favorite essential oils. When you use high-quality essential oils, you'll get the full benefits of the AromaDiffuser! Anyway, screw the clear cap and the white cap back on (make sure you screw the BOTH, I've learned the hard way), and plug your device into an electrical outlet. There are some cool buttons that control the light, the mist, and strength, so you may want to mess around with it, too. This may sound confusing, but once you play around with it, you'll get the hang of it! It is VERY user-friendly!
